How do I add a new custom image?

Many areas of the site already support photos, such as the staff manager, the restaurant information module (for a photo of your restaurant on the front page), and photo galleries (for groups of related photos). If you have a photo that fits nicely into one of these groups, see these directions. If you need to add graphics or clip art to your website in other places, such as news entries or events, this document is for you.

To upload a new freeform image:

  1. Choose the Freeform Pages item of your Content & Layout menu.
  2. Click on the Add File link at the top of the page.
  3. Choose one of the following options: Upload From Hard Disk (you send an image from your hard disk), or Copy From The Web (you copy an existing image from another website). Let's try Upload From Hard Disk for this example. Click that link.
  4. Fill in the entries in the form.
    • Choose a file to upload - Click Browse and locate the file on your hard drive. Double-click it to continue.
    • Choose a name for this file - When you select a file, this should populate itself automatically.
    • Describe this file - (Optional) You can give yourself a reminder of what this image is.
  5. Click the "Add File" button. This will create your document.
  6. The next page will give you information about how to reference your file.

One advantage of uploading images this way is that you can resize them. Often, images may be too large for your purposes. You can scale them down with HTML, but it will still take a long time to download. Shrinking the image will fix this. The directions below assume that you are in your File Manager, viewing the file in question.

To resize your image:

  1. Choose the Resize link at the top menu bar.
  2. There are two ways to resize the image. You can change the height and width boxes directly if you know how large you'd like the final image. Alternately, you can use the zoom in/out buttons to move in small increments. You'll see the preview image change size.
  3. When you're happy with the size, click Save Resized Image.
